Deck Maintenance Advice for Timber & Composite Decking

We’re Often Asked How to Maintain a Deck

We get asked all the time how to clean, oil or look after a deck — particularly from past clients and homeowners who already have timber decking. While we don’t offer maintenance services, we’re happy to share some general guidance below.

Maintaining a Timber Deck

Timber decking requires ongoing care to keep it looking good and performing properly.

Typical maintenance includes:

  • Regular cleaning to remove dirt and debris
  • Light sanding when the surface becomes weathered
  • Re-oiling or re-staining as needed
  • Checking for loose boards or fixings

How often this is required will depend on sun exposure, weather conditions and proximity to the coast.

Maintaining Composite Decking
(Including Trex)

One of the reasons many clients choose composite decking is reduced maintenance.

In most cases, care simply involves:

  • Occasional washing with mild detergent and water
  • Clearing debris from between boards
  • Avoiding harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaning tools

Composite boards do not require sanding, oiling or staining.

Always refer to the manufacturer’s care guidelines for specific product advice.

Considering a Low-Maintenance Option?

If you’re planning a new outdoor area and want to minimise ongoing upkeep, we specialise in Trex composite decking designed for long-term performance in South Australian conditions.
